A retrospective on screen legend Amitabh Bachchan, the detective thriller “Kennedy” by Anurag Kashyap, and the Manoj Bajpayee-starring “Joram” are just a few of the Indian movies that will be shown during the 70th Sydney Film Festival.
The festival will screen 54 documentaries and 90 narrative movies in total from June 7 to June 18 in Sydney.
The “Amitabh Bachchan: Back to the Beginning” retrospective on the actor features four timeless films: “Deewaar” (1975), “Amar Akbar Anthony” (1977), “Don” (1978), and “Kaala Patthar” (1979). The Film Heritage Foundation selected and restored the movies.
Bachchan turned 80 this year, and his distinctive blend of tough-guy appeal and emotional depth has made him one of the nation’s most adored public personalities. The Film Heritage Foundation organized and restored a stunning retrospective of his iconic movies in response to the event. A testimony to Bachchan’s ongoing appeal, the Bachchan Back to the Beginning Festival, which showed in 19 Indian locations, was a big success.
The movies that are being shown at the Art Gallery were chosen from that lineup and provide an engrossing glimpse of the star’s hegemony in the 1970s. During a decade of social upheaval, Bachchan developed into the “Angry Young Man,” and all of these movies address problems like class, poverty, and prejudice. They are also the pinnacle of Hindi films, with Bachchan’s captivating on-screen presence, action, melodrama, and songs that celebrate life.
