During farewell events over the weekend, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, the outgoing Indian Ambassador to the United States, urged the Indian American community to ensure the ongoing connection of the second generation with India. Stressing the benefits of this closeness in the upcoming years, he emphasized that those familiar with India would be uniquely positioned for job and business opportunities as international companies increasingly move operations to India.
Speaking at a farewell reception in McLean, Virginia, organized by the National Council of Asian Indian Associations, Ambassador Sandhu highlighted the contributions of Indian Americans across various fields, particularly in healthcare and business. He commended their success, evident during the pandemic with Indian-origin physicians regularly appearing on news shows and the increasing presence of Indian American executives in top Fortune 500 companies.
Ambassador Sandhu credited the growing recognition of India as a trusted strategic partner to the United States to the achievements of the Indian diaspora. He expressed pride in the success of Indian-American professionals in areas like healthcare and STEM, underscoring their integral role in the United States’ success.
At another event organized by the Indian American Business Impact Group, the ambassador focused on the substantial growth in bilateral relations between the U.S. and India, spanning defense, technology, and education. Acknowledging the achievements, he emphasized that the current level of collaboration only scratches the surface, predicting that the relationship would continue to expand across various sectors. Ambassador Sandhu, a seasoned diplomat, is set to retire at the end of the month.
