Mukesh Ambani, chairman and CEO of Reliance Industries and a business mogul from India, has been appointed to the president’s advisory group for the UNFCCC’s 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28). Ambani is the sole Indian member of the esteemed council, along with other world leaders aside from Sunita Narain.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will host the conference in Dubai Expo City from November 30 to December 12, 2023. The UNFCCC’s main decision-making body, the Conference of Parties (COP), was created to deal with the pressing problem of climate change.
A majority of the 31 members of the advisory committee, who represent policy, business, energy, finance, civil society, youth, and humanitarian action, are from the Global South. Their combined knowledge will direct the COP Presidency up to COP28 and beyond.
The entrepreneur has already spoken in favor of an environmentally friendly economic revolution and identified climate change as the greatest danger facing humanity. His business has made a commitment to cutting carbon emissions and reaching net-zero emissions by 2035. It has also established a goal of generating 100 GW of solar energy by 2030.
The five official UN regions alternate hosting the COP meetings, which are conducted annually. A resolution by the parties determined the location of the first COP meeting, which took place in Berlin, Germany, in March 1995. Subsequent conferences have been held annually.
