On Tuesday, Amazon announced its ambitious goal to achieve US$ 80 billion in cumulative exports from India by 2030, joining forces with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). The collaboration is part of Amazon’s strategy to help establish India as a global manufacturing hub. Amit Agarwal, Senior Vice President for Emerging Markets at Amazon, emphasized the company’s intensified efforts to boost exports, aiming to increase its impact in India fourfold.
Earlier, Amazon set a target to digitize 10 million micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in India, facilitate US$ 20 billion in exports, and generate 2 million jobs by 2025. It has already exceeded the MSME digitization goal, achieving the milestone ahead of schedule by helping over 12 million businesses transition into the digital economy. Amazon has also contributed nearly US$ 13 billion in cumulative exports and created approximately 1.4 million direct and indirect jobs in India.
The company’s contribution to India’s business-to-consumer (B2C) exports stands at 3%, excluding petroleum products. Furthermore, Amazon has committed US$ 120 million through the Amazon Smbhav Venture Fund to support the growth of manufacturing startups, complementing India’s efforts to strengthen its manufacturing sector.
