Amazon has revealed that its e-commerce export initiative, Amazon Global Selling, is on track to surpass $13 billion in cumulative exports from India by the end of 2024. The company has set an ambitious goal to reach $20 billion in exports by the close of 2025. Over the past year, the number of Indian sellers on the platform has surged by 20%, bringing the total to 150,000 exporters who have collectively sold more than 400 million Indian products worldwide.
Mr. Bhupen Wakankar, Director of Global Trade at Amazon India, emphasized that substantial investments are being made in advanced tools and technologies to assist sellers in broadening their reach, improving product visibility, and boosting sales. He noted that the program’s success is evident in the increasing number of exporters flourishing on Amazon’s global marketplaces. Among the fastest-growing categories in Amazon Global Selling is beauty, which has experienced a remarkable 40% year-over-year growth, closely followed by apparel with over 35% growth.
The primary international markets for Indian sellers include the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada, with notable contributions from Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Mexico. Delhi, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra are the leading exporting states, while smaller cities such as Anand in Gujarat and Gautam Buddha Nagar in Uttar Pradesh have achieved impressive sales figures of $89 million and $47 million, respectively, in 2023. Mr. Wakankar also stressed the need for enhancements in cross-border logistics and payment systems to support small businesses involved in e-commerce exports.
