Over 0.45 million pilgrims have participated in the ongoing Amarnath Yatra over the past 29 days, surpassing last year’s record.
According to officials from the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), which oversees the annual pilgrimage, more than 0.45 million pilgrims have had ‘Darshan’ inside the holy cave since the Yatra began on June 29. This surpasses last year’s record of 0.445 million pilgrims who completed the Yatra throughout its entire duration.
On Saturday, approximately 8,000 pilgrims visited the cave shrine, and another group of 1,677 pilgrims departed from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu for the Valley on Sunday.
“This is the smallest number of pilgrims making their way to the Valley since the Yatra commenced on June 29. Among them, 408 Yatris left at 3:35 a.m. in a convoy of 24 vehicles headed to the north Kashmir Baltal base camp. The second convoy, consisting of 1,269 Yatris in 43 vehicles, departed for the south Kashmir Nunwan (Pahalgam) base camp,” officials reported.
Thanks to the extraordinary security arrangements by the CAPFs and J&K Police, this year’s Yatra has been proceeding peacefully and smoothly.
This year’s Yatra will conclude after 52 days on August 29, coinciding with the Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan festivals.
