Aman Kumar Sharma, Secretary-General of the Association of Traditional Sports and Games, India, has been invited to represent India and the International Council of Traditional Sports and Games (ICTSG) at a prestigious United Nations event on sports security.
Titled “Securing the Legacy: Debriefing from Paris 2024 for Future Major Sporting Events,” the conference will take place on March 5, 2025, in a hybrid format at the UN Headquarters in New York. Organized by the United Nations Office of Counterterrorism (UNOCT) in partnership with the Permanent Mission of France, the event is part of UNOCT’s Global Programme on Major Sporting Events Security and the Promotion of Sport to Prevent Violent Extremism.
A former UNESCO committee member on traditional sports, Sharma will participate in discussions addressing security challenges in major sporting events, with insights drawn from the Paris 2024 Olympics. The forum will cover best practices, security technologies, human rights safeguards, and gender inclusion in event security.
Marking the fifth anniversary of UNOCT’s Global Sports Programme, the event will highlight advancements in securing sports venues and the role of sports in fostering resilience against extremism.
Sharma’s involvement reinforces India’s dedication to preserving traditional sports while actively shaping global security frameworks for major sporting events. His presence at the UN forum is expected to bolster India’s standing in international sports diplomacy.
