Alia Bhatt’s much-awaited action thriller Jigra is finally set to stream on Netflix starting December 6, 2024, following its theatrical release in October. Netflix India revealed the release date with a bold Instagram post, featuring a poster and the intriguing caption, “Phoolon aur taaron ne kaha hai, ulti ginti shuru karlo (stars emoticon),” hinting at the film’s suspenseful and thrilling tone.
Directed by Vasan Bala, Jigra is Bhatt’s only solo film release in 2024. The film also features Manoj Pahwa, Vivek Gomber, and Vedang Raina in supporting roles. Jigra follows the story of Satya Anand (Alia Bhatt), a dedicated sister on a perilous mission to rescue her brother, Ankur Anand (Vedang Raina). The movie explores themes of family, sacrifice, and resilience, providing a high-stakes, gripping narrative.
The film, produced by Dharma Productions, is presented by Viacom18 Studios and Eternal Sunshine Productions. The script was co-written by Vasan Bala and Debashish Irengbam. A standout moment in the film is the recreation of the iconic song “Phoolon Ka Taaro Ka,” with Vedang Raina’s vocal rendition, adding a mix of nostalgia and modern flair to the soundtrack.
Despite facing fierce competition at the box office, Jigra had a relatively underwhelming opening compared to the success of Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, which outperformed it with a $700,000 opening. This made Jigra one of Alia Bhatt’s lowest openers, drawing comparisons to her 2014 film Highway, which similarly struggled at the box office despite receiving critical praise.
