Alia Bhatt shared her approach to evaluating scripts, determining whether to act in or produce them through her company, Eternal Sunshine Productions. While her company has backed three projects since its inception in 2021, only two, “Darlings” and “Jigra,” feature her as the lead, leaving “Poachers” without her on-screen presence. When it comes to decision-making, Bhatt emphasizes the importance of assessing her suitability for a role. She acknowledges that not every part aligns with her capabilities, prompting her to consider various factors, including other actors’ suitability, during the project creation process.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Bhatt elaborated on her selection process, stressing the significance of fitting into the character’s role. She emphasizes a holistic perspective, evaluating how each actor contributes to the overall project rather than solely focusing on her character. This approach allows her to ensure that the casting aligns seamlessly with the project’s vision and objectives.
The genesis of “Poachers” lies in an unexpected discovery by director Richie Mehta, known for his Emmy-winning work on “Delhi Crime” Season 1. Mehta stumbled upon the concept while soliciting videos nationwide for a different project. Although the initial submission didn’t fit the project’s scope at the time, Mehta revisited the idea later, envisioning a comprehensive series centered on the ivory trade. “Poachers” thus emerged as an exploration of the relentless slaughter of elephants, shedding light on the plight of wildlife and the individuals striving to protect it.
Produced by QC Entertainment and executive produced by Alia Bhatt, “Poachers” serves as a testament to the commitment of wildlife conservationists in India. Mehta emphasizes that the series draws inspiration from real events, particularly the largest elephant poaching case in India’s history. Through authentic storytelling, “Poachers” aims to raise awareness about environmental preservation and the tireless efforts of those fighting to safeguard our planet’s biodiversity.
