India’s National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, held high-level talks in Moscow with Russia’s Secretary of the Security Council, Sergei Shoigu, aimed at reinforcing the long-standing “special and privileged” strategic partnership between the two nations. The discussions, which took place on August 7, revolved around deepening bilateral cooperation, enhancing collaboration in multilateral forums, and addressing pressing international security challenges.
Both sides emphasized the importance of joint initiatives in the lead-up to the annual India-Russia bilateral summit, expected to be held by the end of this year. According to a statement from the Russian Embassy in India, the meeting underscored the commitment of both countries to maintain strong strategic dialogue and work closely on global issues.
Doval also met Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin, marking a notable moment in the ongoing partnership between New Delhi and Moscow. The meeting included senior Russian officials such as Sergei Shoigu and Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov, alongside Indian Ambassador Vinay Kumar. Talks focused on regional security concerns, defense cooperation, and preparations for the forthcoming leadership-level engagement.
Putin’s visit to India, planned for late August, was a key topic of discussion. This visit follows the long-standing tradition of annual summits between the two nations, held alternately in each country. Ushakov confirmed the schedule, stating that this year it is Russia’s turn to visit India for leadership talks.
Describing the interactions as “constructive,” the Kremlin highlighted that despite shifts in the global geopolitical landscape, both India and Russia remain committed to sustaining their strategic dialogue. NSA Doval, in remarks quoted by Russia’s Interfax news agency, reaffirmed India’s appreciation of the strong relationship, noting, “We have now established very good relations, which we value very much—a strategic partnership between our countries.”
As the summit approaches, the meetings in Moscow signal a continued effort by both nations to align their positions on security and geopolitical issues, reinforcing a partnership that has withstood decades of global change and remains vital in the evolving world order.
