Artificial intelligence has become an indispensable tool in diagnostics, drug discovery and modern healthcare delivery, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh said at the CII Pharma & Lifesciences Summit 2025 in New Delhi. He emphasised that the technology’s effectiveness depends on its judicious and balanced use.
Speaking at the event, the Minister highlighted the government’s growing collaboration with the private sector in areas such as biotechnology, gene therapy and advanced healthcare technologies. He said that under the current leadership, India has adopted a whole-of-government and whole-of-industry approach that accelerates innovation and supports cutting-edge research.
Dr. Singh noted that AI is transforming healthcare delivery models across India. He pointed to AI-enabled diagnostic tools that reduce culture testing times from days to minutes, and telemedicine platforms powered by AI that are enabling medical access in remote regions using local dialects. These innovations, he said, are improving patient trust, efficiency and health outcomes.
The Minister also underscored India’s rapidly advancing scientific and industrial capabilities. He outlined the government’s partnerships with leading private players through Department of Biotechnology initiatives focused on synthetic antibiotics, gene therapy, HPV vaccines and bio-manufacturing, aimed at building indigenous solutions for global markets.
He further highlighted India’s transition from an importer of expensive healthcare solutions to a major exporter of preventive and affordable medical technologies. India’s expanding global footprint in vaccines, biosimilars and cost-effective medical devices, he said, reflects the country’s growing leadership in sustainable healthcare innovation.
