In a recent meeting, India’s seven top gamers had the opportunity to engage in discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This event is not just a milestone for India’s gaming community but also underscores the increasing significance and impact of gaming within the country’s cultural and economic spheres.
The meeting included notable gaming influencers who expressed their belief that Prime Minister Modi’s vision could dramatically transform the gaming landscape in India. Gamers such as Animesh Agarwal, Mithilesh Patankar, Payal Dhare, Naman Mathur, and Anshu Bisht were among those who shared insights on the burgeoning e-gaming industry with the Prime Minister, who also took the opportunity to experience some video games firsthand. Following the discussion, Animesh and Mithilesh shared their thoughts on social media, stating, “We recently had an in-depth discussion with the Prime Minister about the eSports industry. His vision is set to revolutionize gaming in India.”
It’s essential to highlight the vast gaming audience in India, which currently ranges between 450 and 550 million players. The gaming industry in India has shown remarkable growth, with revenues reaching $3.1 billion in the fiscal year 2013, marking a 19 percent increase from $2.6 billion in the previous fiscal year. Payal Dhare also took to Instagram to express her honor in being the sole female gamer to discuss the future of e-gaming and content creation with PM Modi, thanking him for acknowledging their contributions and fostering inclusivity within the industry.
The online gaming sector stands as the fourth largest segment within the Indian media and entertainment industry. Projections from Invest India suggest an anticipated compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20 percent by the year 2025.
In another event that celebrated the contributions of content creators and influencers, the National Creators Awards in New Delhi last month saw PM Modi being lauded as the architect of ‘new India’ and the ‘greatest of all time’. During this ceremony, PM Modi awarded 23 individuals, with Jaya Kishori receiving the Best Creator for Social Change award and Maithili Thakur being named Cultural Ambassador of the Year.
Prime Minister Modi, while addressing the awardees, highlighted the significant impact of their work across India, stating that the content created by these individuals is profoundly influencing the nation. He commended the creators for their bravery and initiative, which has brought them recognition and placed them at the forefront of a hopeful nation looking towards a new era of creativity and innovation.
