The film “Adipurush,” directed by Om Raut, which presents a dramatic retelling of the Ramayana, has faced scrutiny and criticism since its release. Suresh ShyamLal Gupta, the President of the All India Cine Workers Association, has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling for an immediate ban on the film. The letter states that certain dialogues in the movie, including those involving Lord Ram and Ravan, are disrespectful and offensive to Indians both within the country and globally. The backlash against the film has led the makers to decide to revise the dialogues.
Prem Sagar, son of Ramanand Sagar, the creator of the iconic teleserial “Ramayan,” expressed his disappointment with the ongoing controversy surrounding “Adipurush.” He questioned the inclusion of such dialogues in the film, emphasizing that they should not hurt the sentiments of the audience and suggested that the film should be categorized as a fantasy film instead of claiming it is based on Valmiki Ramayan.
Actor Mukesh Khanna also criticized the makers of “Adipurush,” questioning their right to insult scriptures and expressing his disapproval of the dialogues and costumes used in the film. He called it a terrible joke with Ramayan and demanded accountability from the team involved in the film.
Actor Sunil Lahri, known for his role as Laxman in “Ramayan,” shared his disappointment with “Adipurush” after watching the film. He mentioned that apart from the background music and cinematography, he found the movie unsatisfactory. Even the people sitting around him at the theater were not happy with the film.
On the other hand, actress Kriti Sanon, who played the role of Sita in “Adipurush,” chose not to pay attention to the negative backlash. She shared videos on Instagram of the audience cheering for the movie, including clips of them singing “Ram Siya Ram.” Fans showed their support in the comment section, praising her performance and urging her not to believe the negative reviews.
Despite the controversy and mixed reactions, the film continues to receive attention and generates both criticism and support from different quarters.
