Indian-American entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy condemned the attack on former US President Donald Trump, who was injured during an assassination attempt at an election rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Ramaswamy, who had previously challenged Trump for the Republican presidential nomination, expressed his views in a detailed post on X.
Ramaswamy wrote, “We believe Trump’s current safety is nothing less than an act of God. My heart tells me that God intervened not only for Trump but for our nation. Today, the future survival of the United States came down to a mere hair’s width from a bullet’s path.”
Ramaswamy praised Trump, stating that Americans had witnessed “our next President’s true character, unvarnished.” He continued, “He took the fire, he took the hit, he felt the blood, and then he stood right back up for the people he was put here to lead.”
Ramaswamy criticized President Joe Biden, pointing out a series of actions taken against Trump. Ramaswamy criticized President Biden, highlighting a series of actions taken against Trump, including suing him, prosecuting him, and attempting to remove him from the ballot. He expressed that the recent tragic event, while shocking, was not entirely unexpected. Ramaswamy argued that Biden’s forthcoming condemnation of political violence would be inadequate and irrelevant, as mere words cannot alter the toxic national climate that contributed to the incident.
He also called for unity, stressing the importance of recognizing that such acts are unacceptable, regardless of political affiliation.
Ramaswamy’s post drew a reaction from billionaire Elon Musk, who had earlier endorsed Trump following the shooting. “You very much predicted this,” Musk said. Ramaswamy responded, “I badly hoped I would be wrong.”
The incident occurred as Trump began speaking at a packed outdoor rally in Butler. Video footage showed him grabbing his ear as shots were fired, and he was quickly rescued by US Secret Service agents. Trump later confirmed, “A bullet pierced the upper part of my right ear.”
The attacker, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was shot and killed by a member of the Secret Service. The shooting resulted in one spectator’s death and left two others critically injured.
