The American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) is set to host its 43rd Annual Convention & Scientific Assembly from July 24-27, 2025, in Cincinnati, Ohio. The event will bring together a distinguished lineup of speakers from healthcare, science, public service, and sports.
AAPI President Dr. Satheesh Kathula announced that confirmed keynote speakers include Dr. Mario Capecchi, a Nobel laureate in Medicine; Dr. Bobby Mukkamala, the president-elect of the American Medical Association (AMA); and Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy, a Padma Vibhushan awardee and globally renowned gastroenterologist.
Among the invited dignitaries are U.S. Vice President JD Vance, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, India’s Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, and legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.
Dr. Mario Capecchi, awarded the 2007 Nobel Prize in Medicine for his groundbreaking work in mouse knockout technology, will deliver a keynote address. A professor at the University of Utah, Dr. Capecchi specializes in cancer models and sarcoma research, making significant contributions to oncology and genetics.
Dr. Bobby Mukkamala, an otolaryngologist from Flint, Michigan, will also address the convention. Set to assume the AMA presidency in June 2025, he leads the AMA’s Substance Use and Pain Care Task Force, advocating for policies to combat the opioid crisis.
Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy, chairman of AIG Hospitals and a pioneer in gastroenterology, will share insights on advanced digestive health and endoscopy treatments. Dr. Reddy is the first Indian doctor to receive all three Padma awards—Padma Shri (2002), Padma Bhushan (2016), and Padma Vibhushan (2025).
The convention will feature scientific discussions, networking opportunities, academic sessions, policy debates, and wellness programs led by renowned yoga and healthcare experts. Attendees can also enjoy Indian cultural performances and cuisine.
With over 120,000 Indian American physicians, AAPI represents 10% of the U.S. physician workforce, significantly impacting healthcare. “We invite all healthcare professionals to be part of this transformative experience,” said Dr. Sunil Kaza, Chair of AAPI’s Board of Trustees.
