Campaigning for the upcoming general elections in Andhra Pradesh will draw to a close on Saturday, May 11th, as the Election Commission of India will enforce a 48-hour Silence Period starting at 6 p.m. This period precedes the polling for 175 Assembly and 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in the fourth phase of elections in the state.
Chief Electoral Officer Mukesh Kumar Meena announced on Friday that all necessary precautions for the final 72 hours leading up to the polling have been put in place. The 48-hour Silence Period will extend until the conclusion of polling on May 13th, commencing at 6 p.m. on May 11th.
During this Silence Period, Section 144 Cr.P.C. will be implemented across the state, prohibiting any election-related activities such as campaigning, public meetings, rallies, or other political gatherings.
In the lead-up to the elections, postal ballot polling took place between May 5th and 9th, with a total of 4,44,218 voters participating across Andhra Pradesh. The Nellore Parliamentary constituency recorded the highest turnout with 22,650 votes, while the Amalapuram Lok Sabha segment registered the lowest with 14,526 votes.
