India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, recently hosted a 13-member Indian parliamentary delegation led by BJP MP Daggubati Purandeswari. The meeting highlighted the depth and diversity of India’s engagement with the UN across multiple areas, including peace, development, and international law.
Ambassador Harish shared insights into the multi-dimensional nature of India’s collaboration with the global body and praised the delegation for its leadership and vision. Posting on X, he wrote, “We gain a lot from their leadership. It was a great opportunity for the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations to learn from their perspectives.”
The visit coincided with the UN’s Women, Peace and Security (WPS) and International Law Weeks, further underscoring India’s growing contributions in these areas. Ambassador Harish expressed confidence that the delegation’s inputs would help India represent its interests more effectively on the global stage. “The UN benefits from India’s vibrant Parliamentary democracy,” he stated, adding that the lawmakers’ leadership would guide India’s continued work toward shared international goals.
Led by Purandeswari, the delegation included MPs from multiple political parties — Rekha Sharma, Dilip Saikia, Bhola Singh, Saumitra Khan, Sandeep Pathak, Mithun Reddy, P. Wilson, G.K. Vasan, Sajda Ahmed, Indra Hang Subba, and Thamizhachi Thangapandian. Their participation reflected India’s political diversity and democratic spirit in global diplomacy.
In her remarks, Purandeswari noted that the group’s varied political backgrounds demonstrate the strength of India’s democratic system. She also acknowledged Ambassador Harish’s connection to Vijayawada, emphasizing the local pride in his leadership at such an important international forum.
During their visit, Ambassador Harish accompanied the delegation to the UN North Lawns, where they paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi. Harish remarked that Gandhi’s enduring principles continue to inspire all nations to pursue peace, justice, and sustainable progress — ideals that remain central to India’s role at the United Nations.
