India’s women’s cricket team delivered a commanding performance against Pakistan, securing an 88-run victory in the 2025 Women’s World Cup on October 5. Batting first on a slow pitch, India faced initial struggles as several batters were unable to convert starts into substantial scores. Openers Pratika Rawal (31) and Smriti Mandhana (23) provided a steady platform, while Harleen Deol played a composed 46. Late contributions from Jemimah Rodrigues (32) and a quickfire 35 not out by Richa Ghosh propelled India to a competitive total of 247 runs.
Chasing 248, Pakistan stumbled early with a top-order collapse, losing three wickets for just 26 runs within the first eight overs. Despite Sidra Amin’s resilient 81 off 106 balls and support from Natalia Pervaiz (33), the team was unable to build momentum. India’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure throughout the innings. Kranti Gaud led the attack with impressive figures of 3/20 from ten overs, supported by Deepti Sharma’s 3/45 and Shree Charani’s 2/38, preventing Pakistan from mounting a serious challenge.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur praised the team’s bowling performance and highlighted the crucial contributions of the lower order, particularly Richa Ghosh’s late runs. Pakistan captain Fatima Sana reflected on her team’s struggles, noting the need for stronger partnerships and better adaptation to conditions.
The win marks India’s second consecutive victory in the tournament and strengthens their position at the top of the points table. Exceptional fielding, disciplined bowling, and key batting partnerships underscored India’s balanced approach, confirming their status as strong contenders for the Women’s World Cup 2025.
