Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Banswara on Thursday to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for several major development projects valued at $13 billion. A central highlight of his visit will be the launch of the 2,800 MW Mahi Banswara Nuclear Power Project, which is expected to significantly enhance India’s energy capacity and long-term power security.
Alongside the nuclear project, the Prime Minister will virtually flag off two new Vande Bharat Express trains from Bikaner and Jodhpur to Delhi, as well as the Udaipur-Chandigarh Express. Additionally, he will lay foundations for key projects in other states during the event.
This will mark PM Modi’s 16th visit to Rajasthan in the past 22 months since the Bhajanlal Sharma-led BJP government assumed office, highlighting the state’s strategic and developmental significance. His active engagement in the state includes participation in the swearing-in ceremony, multiple election rallies, administrative programs, and landmark initiatives such as launching the e-Seva Quick App during the Rajasthan High Court’s Platinum Jubilee in 2024, and laying the foundation for Rising Rajasthan and ERCP Phase-I in December 2024.
Among the new projects, the $5.1 billion Mahi Banswara Nuclear Power Project will generate 2,800 MW of electricity. In Bikaner, a $1 billion renewable energy project with a capacity of 590 MW will also be inaugurated.
To strengthen power infrastructure, 15.5 GW of transmission lines will be built across Jaisalmer, Barmer, Sirohi, Nagaur, and Bikaner at a cost of $1.6 billion. The water sector will see 15 drinking water projects worth $720 million across 11 districts, including Banswara, Udaipur, Dungarpur, and Barmer.
For connectivity and urban development, foundations will be laid for two flyovers, a bridge over the Banas River, and 119 Atal Pragati Paths in Bharatpur, totaling $107 million. These initiatives demonstrate a comprehensive approach to energy, infrastructure, and regional development in Rajasthan.
