US President Donald Trump has publicly praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for backing initiatives aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war. In a heartfelt post on his social media platform, Trump described Modi as a “friend” who is doing a “tremendous job” on the global stage.
Trump revealed that he spoke with the Indian leader over the phone to personally wish him on his 75th birthday. Sharing details of the conversation on Truth Social, he wrote, “Just had a wonderful phone call with my friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I wished him a very Happy Birthday! He is doing a tremendous job. Narendra: Thank you for your support in ending the War between Russia and Ukraine! President DJT.”
Prime Minister Modi responded warmly, expressing gratitude for Trump’s wishes and underlining his commitment to deepening ties with Washington. Taking to social media platform X, Modi stated, “Thank you, my friend, President Trump, for your phone call and warm greetings on my 75th birthday. Like you, I am also fully committed to taking the India-US Comprehensive and Global Partnership to new heights. We support your initiatives towards a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict.”
The exchange of birthday wishes and diplomatic compliments coincided with significant developments in trade talks between the two nations. On the same day, officials from both countries held a high-level meeting in New Delhi to advance negotiations on a long-discussed trade pact.
US Trade Representative Brendan Lynch met with Rajesh Agrawal, India’s Commerce Ministry Special Secretary, for discussions focused on strengthening economic relations. According to a government statement, the talks were “positive” and both sides agreed to accelerate efforts to finalize a mutually beneficial trade agreement.
The US delegation, led by Lynch, was in India on September 16, where the discussions centered on enhancing cooperation in trade and investment. The timing of the Trump-Modi exchange, alongside progress in official negotiations, highlighted the broader momentum in US-India relations.
Trump’s words of appreciation, coupled with Modi’s reciprocal commitment, reflect the enduring warmth between the two leaders while signaling a shared interest in peace and stronger bilateral ties.
