In his latest address to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proudly announced that India has been officially declared a trachoma-free country by the World Health Organization (WHO). Hailing it as a landmark health achievement, PM Modi credited the tireless efforts of India’s health workers and initiatives like the Jal Jeevan Mission for eradicating this once-common eye disease.
The Prime Minister also shared that the International Labour Organization (ILO) now reports over 950 million Indians are benefitting from social security schemes. This marks a dramatic rise from fewer than 250 million people in 2015. “It’s a sign of the expanding social safety net,” he noted, emphasizing the government’s commitment to inclusive welfare.
Highlighting the global resonance of Indian traditions, PM Modi reflected on the 10th International Day of Yoga, which saw enthusiastic participation from millions worldwide. From New York to Paris, and from the Himalayan peaks to Delhi’s riverbanks, Yoga became a symbol of unity and peace. In Telangana, 3,000 differently-abled individuals joined a yoga session, demonstrating its empowering potential. Meanwhile, 2,121 people in Vadnagar set a new record by performing Bhujangasana together.
PM Modi also celebrated the recent GI tag awarded to Eri silk from Meghalaya. Often called “Ahimsa Silk” because its production doesn’t harm silkworms, Eri silk is known for its unique ability to keep wearers warm in winter and cool in summer. The Prime Minister applauded the Khasi community and self-help groups for preserving this eco-friendly heritage.
On the cultural front, he announced the return of major pilgrimages like the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and Amarnath Yatra, adding that these sacred journeys showcase India’s unity in diversity. He also paid homage to those who opposed the 1975 Emergency, calling on citizens to stay vigilant in protecting democracy.
Lastly, PM Modi mentioned the creation of the Sindoor Forest in Ahmedabad as a tribute to the heroes of Operation Sindoor. He also praised a Pune resident and his family for dedicating every holiday to forest conservation—planting trees, digging water pits, and restoring local biodiversity.
Together, these developments reflect a nation moving forward with pride, purpose, and a deep sense of cultural and civic responsibility.
