On the evening of June 1, 2025, the American Indian Association (AIA), New York Chapter, hosted its Annual Benefit Gala at the elegant Pearl Banquet Hall. Over 350 esteemed guests gathered, including top dignitaries, the Consul General of India in New York, elected officials, and community professionals from medicine, healthcare, and civic leadership. The gala celebrated five influential individuals for their remarkable service and accomplishments across various fields. Each honoree, referred to as the ‘Five Ratnas,’ reflected the brilliance and diversity of the Indian-American community.
Among them was Dr. Karthik Gujja, a pioneer in cardiovascular and endovascular medicine. Dr. Gujja holds multiple directorial roles at Mount Sinai South Nassau and in private practice, where he operates several outpatient intervention centers. His work blends clinical expertise with innovative leadership across Long Island and New York City.
Navneet Sikka, Senior Vice President at Citigroup and Chair of the American Punjabi Society Women’s Council, was honored for her dual impact in finance and community activism. With over 21 years in the financial sector, she has led social initiatives including cancer awareness drives, blood donations, and cultural outreach.
In the medical field, Dr. Hetal Gor, a highly decorated OB/GYN from Englewood, NJ, was recognized for her career achievements and tireless work for women’s health. She’s received numerous national and international awards for her professional excellence and humanitarian efforts.
Dr. Devendra Shrivastava, a trailblazer in nephrology and medical leadership, serves as Medical Director at major Brooklyn hospitals and leads healthcare organizations such as Empire ACO and NYCC IPA. He also mentors future medical professionals and holds presidential roles in multiple Indian-American physician associations.
Dr. Ramesh C. Gupta, a veteran in synthetic organic chemistry and President of two pharmaceutical firms, was celebrated for his decades of innovation in cancer research and drug development. His work, supported by NIH grants and pharmaceutical partnerships, contributes to advancements in treatments for major illnesses.
The evening also spotlighted special guests including Binaya S. Pradhan, Consul General of India in New York; Bruce Blakeman, Nassau County Executive; and other local leaders. The Gala included cultural performances by talented youth and served as a fundraising event for AIA-NY’s upcoming Deepavali celebration at Tanner Park on October 11 (rain date October 12).
President Beena Kothari and the AIA team expressed heartfelt appreciation for the support, energy, and unity that made the event a resounding success. Founded in 1967, AIA continues to be a cornerstone of Indian-American cultural pride and engagement.
