During a diplomatic visit to Jakarta on Wednesday, a high-level Indian parliamentary delegation led by Janata Dal (United) MP Sanjay Jha engaged in critical meetings to boost international support against terrorism. One of the pivotal engagements was with Indonesian Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Arief Havas Oegroseno, who reiterated Indonesia’s firm zero-tolerance approach to terrorism and expressed commitment to expanding anti-terror coordination with India.
According to insiders familiar with the discussions, Indonesia conveyed readiness to stand with India in identifying and isolating Pakistan as a sponsor of terrorism, both in bilateral dialogues and on global platforms where Pakistan is also present. Indonesia, home to one of the world’s largest Muslim populations, underscored that no faith endorses attacks on innocent people, making clear its disapproval of religiously motivated violence.
Vice Minister Oegroseno highlighted the strong and lasting ties between Indonesia and India, citing their common stance against extremism. He also referenced Indonesia’s earlier decision to reject Pakistan’s anti-India proposal, reinforcing mutual trust. Meanwhile, the Indian delegation met ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, where Sanjay Jha offered a detailed briefing on India-Pakistan relations and the rationale behind Operation Sindoor. The ASEAN head encouraged dialogue and peaceful resolutions while acknowledging India’s proactive defense measures.
Former External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid provided historical context to the strained India-Pakistan ties and condemned the targeting of civilians in the April 22 Pahalgam incident. He emphasized India’s policy of restraint and defense, not provocation.
Summarizing the diplomatic engagements on X (formerly Twitter), Sanjay Jha called the Jakarta visit “a day of purposeful diplomacy,” noting that India’s message of unity and zero tolerance for terrorism was firmly communicated. He praised the constructive support from both Indonesia and ASEAN leaders and highlighted the deepening strategic cooperation between India and Southeast Asia, spanning security, connectivity, commerce, and culture.
