Roselle Park became a beacon of environmental harmony on Saturday, April 26, 2025, as the community came together for a meaningful tree-planting event. Held under the theme “Love Our Mother Earth,” the collaborative effort by the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) Chicago and the Chicago Indo-US Lions Club turned the park into a lively representation of unity, purposeful action, and hope.
The event, spearheaded by Sunil Shah (Founder and Chairman of FIA) and Lion Hina Trivedi (Founder and President of the Indo-US Lions Club), saw enthusiastic participation from residents of all ages. A particularly heartening sight was the large group of high school students from Lake Park Schools, who arrived early and energized, treating the park as both a classroom and a mission site for sustainability.
Dinesh Kapoor from FIA ensured seamless logistics, from distributing saplings to guiding volunteers to planting sites. His behind-the-scenes work highlighted the level of commitment that brought this initiative to life.
“Every tree is a message of hope and a promise for future generations,” shared Sunil Shah during his address. He stressed how trees contribute to combating climate change, improving air quality, and building resilient communities. Spontaneous participation from parkgoers further underscored the power of collective action and emotional investment in preserving the Earth.
Lion Hina Trivedi, instrumental in uniting FIA, the Indo-US Lions Club, and the City of Roselle, remarked, “Today we didn’t just plant trees, we planted relationships—between people, organizations, and our planet.”
FIA President Anu Malhotra echoed this, stating, “This collaboration reflected the strength and spirit of our community. It showed how impactful change becomes when rooted in purpose.”
Among those in attendance were prominent Indo-US Lions Club members who coordinated on-site volunteer efforts, including Lion Dulsa, Lion Dr. Jay Trivedi, Lion Tony, Gopal Shah, Veronica, Lion Sunny Trivedi, Nick, Joe, and Mary. Their dedication and teamwork ensured the event ran with heart and precision.
As each tree found its place in the earth, it marked not only a greener Roselle but also a stronger, more connected community.
The Chicago Indo-US Lions Club continues to make a mark through its contributions to healthcare, education, and environmental outreach. FIA Chicago, representing over 300,000 Indian Americans in the Midwest, serves as a cultural and civic bridge between the US and India.
