Professor Ajay K. Sood, who serves as the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister of India, has been inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, one of the world’s most esteemed academic institutions.
Union Minister for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, shared on X (formerly Twitter) that Prof. Ajay K. Sood, India’s Principal Scientific Adviser, has been honored with the title of Fellow at the prestigious American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He highlighted this recognition as a major milestone for both the scientist and the country.
Prof. Sood joins an elite list of Indian-origin achievers this year, including Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and renowned physicist C Jagadish, who is based in Australia.
Founded in 1780 amid the American Revolution by figures such as John Adams and John Hancock, the Academy unites distinguished leaders across disciplines—from science and technology to the arts and public policy. The academy’s mission is to promote dialogue, drive research, and support innovation aimed at the betterment of society.
Prof. Sood’s selection reflects his exceptional contributions to condensed matter physics and his influential role in shaping India’s science policy. His recognition, alongside Nadella and Jagadish, highlights the global impact of Indian talent in driving scientific and technological progress.
This recognition not only honours their individual achievements but also serves as a testament to India’s growing intellectual presence on the global stage.
