Indian American author and Creative Director of the New Jersey-based Sikh Research Institute (SikhRI), Inni Kaur, recently visited the historic residence of Sikh scholar and literary icon Bhai Vir Singh. During her visit, she led a profound session reflecting on his influential writings and spiritual contributions.
Kaur, who has penned multiple books on Sikh philosophy and the teachings of the Gurus, shared how Bhai Vir Singh’s literature played a pivotal role in shaping her understanding of Sikh values. Having spent her early years abroad and studied in a convent school, she shared that it was the writings of Bhai Vir Singh ji that deeply rooted her in her cultural and spiritual identity—an emotional revelation made before an audience of esteemed Sikh scholars, educators, and literary personalities.
She spoke openly about her personal journey—transitioning from an English-speaking lifestyle to becoming a passionate scholar and author of Sikh literature. Kaur credited her deep-rooted spiritual growth and commitment to Sikhism to the enlightening words and vision of Bhai Vir Singh.
Gunbir Singh, vice president of the Bhai Vir Singh Niwas Asthaan, praised Kaur’s contributions to preserving and promoting Sikh heritage. He also announced that her English translations of traditional Sakhis—short stories rooted in Sikh history—are set for publication through Sahitya Sadan in Delhi.
This meaningful interaction not only honored the legacy of Bhai Vir Singh but also highlighted the continued global impact of his work, particularly through voices like Inni Kaur, who bridge generations and geographies with Sikh thought and wisdom.
