Modi, JD Vance Discuss Trade, Tech, and Ties

On April 21, Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly received US Vice President JD Vance, along with his wife Usha Vance and their three children, at his official residence in New Delhi. The meeting marked a key moment in advancing diplomatic relations and deepening strategic collaboration between India and the United States.

The two leaders acknowledged a remarkable headway in ongoing discussions regarding a potential bilateral trade agreement. Emphasizing shared prosperity, both Modi and Vance agreed that the deal would aim to deliver meaningful economic benefits to citizens in both nations.

Beyond trade, their dialogue covered a broader framework of collaboration, including growing cooperation in areas like energy, defense, and cutting-edge technologies. Recalling his earlier visit to Washington D.C. this year, Prime Minister Modi spoke of his productive meeting with former President Donald Trump. He said the encounter laid the groundwork for a stronger India-US alliance, bringing together Trump’s MAGA vision and Modi’s Viksit Bharat 2047 mission—both centered around national growth and transformation.

Modi also expressed his enthusiasm about President Trump’s upcoming visit to India later in the year, suggesting further steps toward reinforced collaboration on both economic and geopolitical fronts.

Vice President Vance, who was accompanied by a delegation of senior US officials, engaged in cultural experiences earlier in the day. The Vance family visited the iconic Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple in Delhi, where they were awed by its architectural brilliance and spiritual ambiance. “Our kids loved it. They also visited the Central Cottage Industries Emporium on Janpath, where they explored India’s rich heritage of handicrafts and traditional art.
