Five Indian American educators and a mentor have been awarded the prestigious Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) and the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring (PAESMEM). These honors celebrate their outstanding contributions to STEM education and mentorship.
The winners, recognized by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the National Science Foundation, will receive a $10,000 award, a certificate signed by the President, and an invitation to recognition events in Washington, D.C.
Indian American PAEMST Winners:
Vivekanand Balija of New Jersey, an experienced middle school science teacher and forensics coach, holds advanced degrees in science and education.
Rama Devagupta of Washington, a biology and chemistry teacher with numerous accolades and international research experience, is dedicated to climate change education and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
Anjana Iyer of New Jersey, known for her inclusion teaching in chemistry, has been recognized for her innovative approaches to STEM education and co-teaching strategies.
Ranjani Krishnan of Oregon, a math and computer science teacher, integrates creativity and innovation into her curriculum while maintaining a vibrant career as a vocalist and composer.
Rajini Sundararaj of Georgia, a science educator with nearly three decades of experience, emphasizes equity and differentiated instruction in her classroom.
PAESMEM Recipient:
Binod Tiwari, a professor at California State University, Fullerton, is celebrated for mentoring over 240 students, promoting diversity in STEM, and advancing student research initiatives through innovative programs.
These awardees exemplify dedication to STEM education, inspiring students and shaping the next generation of innovators and leaders.
