Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has spotlighted India’s potential to emerge as a global leader in data centres. Speaking at the Thuglak 55th-year anniversary event in Chennai, he outlined the nation’s strides in infrastructure development and technology investments, which are laying the foundation for significant economic growth.
Goyal highlighted that India’s unique interconnected power grid, established in just three years, has eradicated regional energy cost disparities. This reliable and green energy network has piqued international interest, fostering investment in fields like artificial intelligence, data analytics, and tech-based enterprises.
He attributed India’s development to the “5Ds” framework: Democracy, Demographic Dividend, Diversity, Demand, and Dependability. These pillars, he explained, have driven progress across key areas such as economic growth, innovation, manufacturing, global influence, and women-led initiatives.
Discussing the government’s welfare programs, Goyal emphasized efforts to meet sustainable development goals, ensuring universal access to essential services such as housing, healthcare, education, and digital connectivity. These initiatives, paired with accountability measures for ministers and bureaucrats, reflect the government’s commitment to inclusive and responsive governance.
While acknowledging challenges, Goyal expressed confidence in India’s resilience to overcome obstacles threatening national unity, security, and aspirations. Revisiting the Prime Minister’s 11 resolutions on the 75th Anniversary of the Indian Constitution, he concluded that these principles form the roadmap for transforming India into a developed nation.
