The Ministry of Home Affairs has officially launched the G20 Talent Visa to position India as a global hub for academic and technological collaboration. This visa is designed for scholars, researchers, and professionals from G20 nations and aims to enhance India’s scientific and educational ecosystem.
The announcement aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposal at the 2024 G20 Summit, where he stressed the importance of fostering opportunities for top talent in science and technology.
Modi highlighted the need for a visa that would allow exceptional talent to explore global opportunities and significantly contribute to the economies of participating nations.
The G20 Talent Visa falls under the S-5 student visa category and is aimed at individuals engaged in post-doctoral research, academic projects, fellowships, and specialized training. The visa is expected to attract highly skilled professionals from the G20 countries, with a focus on enhancing innovation in key sectors like science, technology, and engineering.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) will promote the visa across higher education institutions, encouraging universities to disseminate information about the visa to maximize participation and foster cross-border academic and research collaborations.
Modeled after successful global programs such as the UK’s Global Talent Visa, Australia’s Global Talent Visa, and the US O-1 Visa, the G20 Talent Visa aims to bring in top-tier talent from various fields, ensuring India remains competitive in the global academic and technological arena.
