The 10th World Ayurveda Congress and AROGYA Expo commenced on Thursday with Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasizing Ayurveda’s potential to enhance global healthcare systems. In a message read during the event’s inauguration, PM Modi reaffirmed the government’s dedication to promoting Ayurveda. He noted that Ayurveda’s holistic approach, addressing prevention, nutrition, and mental health, makes it a valuable tool for modern healthcare challenges. He encouraged delegates to develop a blueprint to further Ayurveda’s global outreach.
With over 5,500 delegates, including 350 international participants from 54 nations, the event highlights Ayurveda’s growing global recognition. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami underscored the state’s rich history of Ayurveda and announced the implementation of India’s first yoga policy. He noted that combining Ayurveda and yoga could revolutionize healthcare. Dhami also revealed that Uttarakhand is setting up 50-bed AYUSH hospitals in each district and creating model AYUSH villages to boost Ayurvedic herb production.
The state government is actively promoting Ayurveda through 300 AYUSH-based health centres and online consultations via the e-Sanjeevani portal. Plans for 50 new yoga and wellness centres and AYUSH tele-consultation services are underway. Dhami further proposed establishing an All India Institute of Ayurveda in the state to advance research and education in the field.
Union Minister of State for AYUSH, Prataprao Jadhav, highlighted a significant increase in AYUSH product exports, now reaching over 150 countries. He noted that new technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, are being integrated into Ayurveda practices. The central government is also establishing AYUSH medicine centres across the country to improve accessibility.
Jadhav expressed confidence that the World Ayurveda Congress will foster innovative ideas, cultural exchange, and growth in Ayurveda, making ancient practices relevant in modern healthcare.
