The second trilateral consultation between India, Iran, and Armenia took place on Thursday, where representatives from all three nations discussed key issues such as connectivity projects, multilateral cooperation, and regional developments. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) shared details in a press release, emphasizing the importance of enhancing trade, tourism, and cultural ties.
The Indian delegation was led by JP Singh, Joint Secretary of the Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran Division. Hashem Ashja’ Zadeh, Director General of the South Asia Division from Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented Iran. Anahit Karapetyan, Head of the Asia-Pacific Department from Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led the Armenian delegation.
The MEA’s statement noted that the discussions aimed at promoting stronger people-to-people connections and collaboration in tourism and trade. The previous trilateral meeting was held in Yerevan, Armenia, in April 2023.
A major topic was the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) and the critical role of Iran’s Chabahar Port in facilitating regional connectivity. Armenia shared insights on its own project, “The Crossroads of Peace,” aimed at boosting regional connectivity.
All three nations reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing cooperation and agreed to hold the next round of consultations in Iran, scheduling it based on mutual convenience.
