Dr Chandarana Dental Museum, located in Vadodara, is Asia’s first and only museum dedicated to dental health education. Established in 2016 by Dr Yogesh Chandarana, this private museum has achieved two Guinness World Records: the largest toothbrush collection and the largest display of toothbrushes.
The museum features a staggering collection of 2,371 toothbrushes. These include diverse types, such as traditional datun and 19th-century toothbrushes made of bone and animal hair. Dr Yogesh Chandarana personally holds the record for the largest collection, while his entire family is recognized for curating the best display of toothbrushes. Previously, the record for the largest collection was held by a Canadian girl with 1,678 toothbrushes.
The inspiration for the museum came when Dr Chandarana worked at SSG Hospital in Baroda and later visited the “House on the Rock” museum in the US. Inspired by this, he aimed to create a unique dental museum where visitors could learn about oral health in an engaging way. Starting with 500 toothbrushes, his collection grew rapidly, ultimately reaching the Guinness requirement and securing the record with 2,371 toothbrushes.
His son, Dr Pranav Chandarana, highlighted that the museum now contains thousands of dental-related artefacts, including toothpaste, mouthwash, dental tools, advertising memorabilia, and vintage dental chairs. Their achievements have also been recognized in the India Book of Records and the Asia Book of Records.
The museum offers more than just historical exhibits. It integrates modern technology to educate and treat children. Interactive features like augmented reality animations, animatronic orchestras, and AI-powered dental reports engage young visitors. Dental health assessments can be delivered instantly to mobile devices, making the museum both informative and cutting-edge.
