The Asian Tour has officially announced that India will host its first-ever International Series golf event at the DLF Golf & Country Club in Gurugram, taking place from January 30 to February 2. This tournament marks a major milestone for Indian golf, drawing top-tier talent, including US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau.
This prestigious $2 million event is set to feature a limited field of 108 players due to restricted daylight during that season. It will also be the highest field-rated tournament held in the country, with many LIV Golf stars expected to participate. Notably, this event is being organized independently of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), which is affiliated with the DP World Tour.
India’s golf scene is in for a busy stretch, as the Hero Indian Open on the DP World Tour will also be held at the same venue in March. Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri, who competes on the LIV Golf circuit, expressed excitement about the impact of the event, noting that the presence of a star like DeChambeau could inspire a new generation of golfers. Lahiri recalled how watching Arjun Atwal’s victory at the 1999 Indian Open sparked his golfing ambitions.
Asian Tour Commissioner Cho Minn Thant welcomed the return of the tour to India after nearly two years, the last event being the DGC Open in March 2023. He acknowledged India’s importance to the Asian Tour and expressed optimism about hosting more tournaments in the country. Indian competitors for the International Series event will include Asian Tour members and invited players, ensuring strong local representation.
With global stars and increased attention to Indian golf, this tournament promises to be a landmark event for the sport in the country.
