The Hindu Students Council (HSC) Canada recently organized an engaging meet-and-greet event at OCAD University in Toronto, bringing together Hindu student leaders from multiple campuses. The event, held on Sunday evening, also featured participation from the Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA) and the Hindu Forum of Canada, providing a platform for open dialogue and cultural exchange.
During the session, students shared their experiences and challenges, particularly in facing Hinduphobia within academic settings. They discussed their efforts to secure a rightful space in educational institutions, addressing stereotypes and misconceptions, especially in light of current strained relations between India and Canada. The evening concluded with a unifying chant of “Jai Shree Ram” in the campus Puja Room, reinforcing their collective spirit.
One student highlighted the significance of HSC, noting, “Hindu Students Council is the largest pan-Hindu youth organization in North America. It offers a safe space for Hindus to express their Dharma, practice culture, and develop leadership skills.”
Another participant, Khushi, emphasized the council’s role in nurturing future leaders, saying, “HSC provides a place to grow, teaching the next generation to stand up for themselves while celebrating our rich cultural diversity. We focus on three core values — Empowerment, Awareness, and Seva.”
The council aims to create an inclusive community where students can learn about Hindu Dharma, strengthen their cultural identity, and develop personal growth. Events like these are pivotal in equipping young Hindus with the resources and confidence to represent their heritage positively, fostering leadership and unity within the community.
