On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi began a five-day international tour, which includes visits to Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana from November 16 to 21. This strategic trip focuses on deepening bilateral ties, attending the G20 Summit in Brazil, and receiving a prestigious honor in Guyana.
The first leg of the journey takes PM Modi to Nigeria from November 16 to 17, at the invitation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Highlighting the close partnership between the two nations, the visit aims to strengthen their strategic relationship. PM Modi will also meet the Indian diaspora in Nigeria, acknowledging their significant contributions and fostering connections.
Next, PM Modi will travel to Brazil for the 19th G20 Summit from November 18 to 19. As a member of the Troika, he will engage in discussions centered on the Global South’s priorities. Reflecting on India’s successful G20 presidency, he emphasized Brazil’s efforts to continue advancing these goals. His participation aligns with the shared vision of “One Earth, One Family, One Future,” as he collaborates with global leaders to further bilateral and multilateral initiatives.
The final stop is Guyana, marking the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to the country in over five decades. During this historic visit, PM Modi will meet President Mohamed Irfaan Ali and discuss ways to enhance their unique partnership built on shared heritage and values. He will also address the Guyanese Parliament and pay homage to one of the world’s oldest Indian diasporas, which migrated to Guyana over 185 years ago.
As part of his visit, PM Modi will attend the second India-CARICOM Summit, fostering stronger ties with Caribbean nations and exploring new areas of collaboration. Notably, he will receive the Dominica Award of Honour, the highest civilian accolade from the Commonwealth of Dominica, recognizing his support during the COVID-19 pandemic and commitment to bilateral relations.
