On October 26, 2024, the Indian American Community Outreach Advisory Board (IACOAB) celebrated its 10th annual Diwali festival at Metea Valley High School in Aurora, attracting over 3,000 participants. This lively event honored the Festival of Lights, showcasing the Indian community’s rich cultural legacy while promoting unity and joy inherent in Diwali.
Diwali, recognized as the “Festival of Lights,” symbolizes the victory of good over evil and the illumination of darkness. Traditions such as lighting lamps, exchanging sweets, and partaking in joyful activities embody the festival’s essence, drawing families and communities closer.
This year’s celebration featured over 25 vendors presenting a wide range of products, from traditional attire to distinctive handicrafts. Attendees explored these offerings while enjoying delightful cuisine from local restaurants. Additionally, more than 12 nonprofit organizations participated, sharing essential information about their services and initiatives to support the community.
The event welcomed several notable guests, including Mayor Richard Irvin, Congressman Bill Foster, and Indian Consulate General Mr. Somnath Ghosh, as well as various elected officials from Aurora. Their presence highlighted the significance of community involvement and support for cultural initiatives. The event benefited from the enthusiastic support of the Mayor’s office and local volunteers, contributing to its overall success.
IACOAB Chair Nitin Fuldeore conveyed his pride in the festival, noting that this year’s event was a standout for both vendors and the local community. He shared his joy in seeing attendees enjoy delicious food, distinctive products, and lively entertainment.
