In a video conference prior to Diwali, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the special significance of this year’s celebrations, as it marks the first Diwali at the newly built Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya. “After 500 years, Lord Ram is now seated in his grand temple, making this the first Diwali celebrated with him in such a magnificent setting. We are truly fortunate to witness this special and grand Diwali,” PM Modi stated.
On this auspicious occasion, the Prime Minister noted that appointment letters for government jobs are being distributed to 51,000 young individuals at the employment fair, emphasizing the government’s dedication to offering permanent positions, particularly in BJP and NDA-ruled states.
PM Modi praised the Haryana government for its hiring practices, noting its exemplary start in offering employment to approximately 26,000 youths. He also pointed out a significant increase in Khadi sales, which surged by 400 percent compared to the previous UPA government, describing it as beneficial for artisans, weavers, and traders. He highlighted that Khadi Gramodyog now generates business worth over $18.3 billion annually, underscoring the government’s efforts to promote rural economic growth.
Additionally, PM Modi discussed the Lakpati Didi Yojana, aimed at empowering rural women through Self-Help Groups (SHGs), with 12.5 million women achieving an annual income exceeding $1,220.
In Ayodhya, preparations for the Diwali Deepotsav are underway, with the Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirath Kshetra Trust choosing to avoid Chinese-made decorations, opting instead for locally crafted items to promote local artisans and eco-friendly materials. This year’s celebrations aim to set a Guinness World Record for the largest number of diyas lit simultaneously. Fashion designer Manish Malhotra has been commissioned to create festive attire for the Ram temple deities, blending high fashion with spirituality.
The Ayodhya Deepotsav plans to achieve two Guinness World Records, including a 1,100-person Saryu Aarti and the lighting of 2.5 million (25 lakh) diyas in expanded areas like New Ghat, Old Ghat, and Bhajan Sandhya. With over 1.2 million lamps already placed, the event promises to illuminate Ayodhya like never before. A 30-member team from the Guinness Book of World Records, led by Nischal Barot, has been sent to oversee the festivities. To ensure success, volunteer numbers have been increased, with final results expected after the lighting on October 30.
