U.S. Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti praised the event, emphasizing Diwali’s meaning and the vital role Indian Americans play in strengthening bilateral ties.
In a heartfelt message shared on X, Garcetti stated, “What a beautiful celebration of Diwali at the @WhiteHouse! As we celebrate the journey of light, we also honor the invaluable contributions of Indian Americans who deepen the #USIndia bond.” He added a wish for the light of Diwali to illuminate the world and promote peace and prosperity.
First Lady Jill Biden and President Joe Biden welcomed Indian Americans from across the nation on October 28, marking their final Diwali celebration in office. The White House showcased images from the festivities, highlighting the tradition of gathering in celebration.
President Biden acknowledged the importance of Diwali and the contributions of the South Asian American community, describing it as the fastest-growing and most engaged community in the U.S. He stated, “The South Asian American community has enriched every part of American life,” noting the open and proud celebration of Diwali at the White House.
Reflecting on the current state of American democracy, he stressed the need for unity amid ongoing challenges, recalling the first Diwali celebration he hosted at the Vice President’s residence in 2016. He highlighted the diversity of his administration, featuring figures like Vice President Kamala Harris and U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, concluding with the affirmation that “only in America is everything possible.”
