The Desai Foundation’s annual “Diwali on the Hudson” event, now in its 11th year, took place on October 17 at HK Hall in New York City. This star-studded celebration brought together celebrities, creators, and community supporters to mark Diwali and raise funds for impactful programs. Notable attendees included artist Jay Sean, manager and yoga teacher Thara Natalie, actor Ami Sheth, Broadway performer Ari Afsar, artist Meah Pace, entrepreneur Krishna Subramanian, musician Monica Dogra, and various other figures across the arts and business sectors.
Funds raised from this celebration will directly benefit The Desai Foundation’s mission to enhance health and livelihoods for over 9 million women and children in rural India. A significant highlight of the evening was the recognition given to the Foundation by New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, in acknowledgment of the Foundation’s meaningful contributions through programs like the Asani Sanitary Napkin Program and Heroes for Humanity.
This year’s Diwali event carried even more significance following New York City’s recent designation of Diwali as a public school holiday. This holiday highlights the importance of Diwali, a festival symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness, and brings communities together to celebrate hope, unity, and new beginnings. With a proposal in Congress to formally recognize Diwali nationwide, this gathering underscores the cultural impact of the festival across the U.S.
The “Diwali on the Hudson” celebration was made possible by numerous partners and sponsors, including Desi Galli, Rampur Whiskey, Naidu Wines, Dagne Dover, and more. Past events have featured talented artists such as DJ Suhel, Raja Kumari, Karsh Kale, and Zarna Garg, creating a vibrant and memorable experience for all in attendance. This gathering not only celebrated Diwali but also championed the shared mission of empowering rural communities in India by advancing health, dignity, and opportunities.
