Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated that India is on the brink of a transformative era in animation, citing the widespread appeal of popular Indian animated series like ‘Chhota Bheem,’ ‘Hanuman,’ and ‘Motu-Patlu.’ During his monthly Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast, he urged citizens to commit to making India a significant player in the global animation landscape. He highlighted how Indian animated characters and films are increasingly appreciated worldwide for their creativity and engaging content.
Recalling the impact of ‘Chhota Bheem’ on audiences, Modi noted that its popularity extends beyond India, with characters like “Dholakpur ka Dhol” captivating children globally. He remarked on the pervasive nature of animation across various media, from smartphones to gaming consoles, asserting that India is on the cusp of an animation revolution.
Modi also discussed the rapid expansion of India’s gaming industry, which is gaining international recognition. He shared insights from a recent meeting with leading Indian gamers, praising the remarkable creativity and quality of their work. According to him, the phrase “Made in India” can now be seen throughout the animation sector, reflecting India’s growing influence.
Furthermore, Modi acknowledged the contributions of Indian talent to international productions, such as the latest Spider-Man and Transformers films, where Indian artists have received significant acclaim. Indian animation studios are collaborating with renowned global companies like Disney and Warner Bros, showcasing the country’s potential for creating original content that resonates with global audiences.
He emphasized that the animation industry is not just a standalone sector but is increasingly interlinked with other industries, such as virtual reality (VR) tourism. Modi highlighted how VR technology allows users to explore India’s rich cultural heritage, inspiring many to visit these historical sites in person.
To the youth, Modi encouraged expanding their creativity, suggesting that the next major animated success or viral game could emerge from their efforts. He referenced World Animation Day, celebrated on October 28, and called for a unified commitment to establishing India as a global animation powerhouse.
Reflecting on the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, he reinforced the mantra of self-reliance, sharing how India has evolved from importing mobile phones to becoming the world’s second-largest manufacturer. Modi highlighted that India’s advancements in defense and space technology, including the development of Asia’s largest imaging telescope in Ladakh, exemplify the country’s capabilities.
He encouraged citizens to acknowledge and celebrate local startups and innovations on social media, promoting a shift toward supporting local businesses during the festive season under the slogan “Vocal for Local.” Modi concluded by asserting that India is transitioning from “Make in India” to “Make for the World,” reinforcing the vision of a self-reliant and innovative nation.
