Diwali celebrations have commenced in full swing across New York, as members of the Indian diaspora spread the festive spirit of lights within the community. From Times Square in Manhattan to Pennsylvania, the Indian-American population has begun the festivities ahead of Diwali, which falls on October 31.
“Diwali @ TimesSquare: Indian American Community & American Friends join together at Times Square to celebrate Diwali,” read a post by the Indian Consulate in New York on ‘X’. The Consul General of India in New York, Binaya Pradhan, joined Indian-Americans and American friends at Times Square to mark the occasion. The event, organized by Neeta Bhasin, also saw participation from Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, and Assembly member Jenifer Rajkumar.
Deputy Consul General Varun Jeph attended the Diwali celebrations hosted by the Khalsa Asian American Association in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, where he joined members of the Indian and Asian American communities. The Consulate extended thanks to Upper Darby Mayor Ed Brown and Pennsylvania State Senator Tim Kearney for their support of the Indian-American community and efforts to strengthen India-U.S. relations.
