Anirban Kundu, a former executive at Uber, has been appointed as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Instacart, the online grocery delivery service, the company announced on October 16 through a blog post. Kundu, an Indian American, will officially join Instacart later this month, following his recent position as Vice President and Head of Engineering for Uber Delivery.
In his new role, Kundu will be tasked with leading Instacart’s technical team as the company continues to grow its influence in the grocery industry. The blog post praised Kundu’s deep expertise in managing multi-sided marketplaces, calling him the ideal person to advance Instacart’s technical vision due to his history of building scalable systems that support long-term growth.
In a LinkedIn post, Kundu expressed excitement about collaborating with the Instacart team to revolutionize the grocery sector. He emphasized the company’s use of technology to make grocery shopping more accessible and efficient, both online and in stores. Kundu highlighted his enthusiasm for leading advancements in areas such as logistical efficiency, AI-powered personalization, and creating seamless omnichannel shopping experiences across North America.
Before joining Instacart, Kundu played a significant role at Uber, where he led B2B and B2C solutions, including Uber Eats and the company’s advertising solutions. Prior to his time at Uber, he held leadership roles at Postmates, Evernote, GoDaddy, Shazam, and Yahoo, building a strong foundation in product and engineering across various industries.
