A major leadership change is underway at Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE), with Tony Vinciquerra set to step down as Chairman and CEO, effective January 2, 2025. He will be succeeded by Indian American executive Ravi Ahuja, who currently serves as Chairman of Global Television Studios and President and COO at SPE. Ahuja’s promotion comes after years of mentorship from Vinciquerra, who hired him back in 2007 during their time at Fox Networks Group.
While Vinciquerra will step aside from his CEO role, he will remain with SPE as non-executive Chairman until the end of 2025 in an advisory capacity. Ahuja’s rise to CEO is seen as a natural progression, given his experience and leadership in overseeing successful productions like The Boys, Cobra Kai, and Outlander.
Before his time at SPE, Ahuja held key positions at Walt Disney Television and Fox Networks Group, and his long-standing career in the entertainment industry began in 1997. A graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Ahuja has been a trailblazer for Indian American executives.
Once Ahuja assumes the CEO position, he will report to Sony Group Corporation’s leadership, including Chairman and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida and President and COO Hiroki Totoki. Under Ahuja’s leadership, SPE will continue to build on its 100-year legacy, with brands like Columbia Pictures, Screen Gems, and Crunchyroll under its expansive umbrella.
