Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded Singapore as more than just a partner, calling it a shining example for developing nations. In a recent roundtable meeting with his Singaporean counterpart, Lawrence Wong, PM Modi described the dialogue between India and Singapore as a groundbreaking initiative.
In his opening remarks, PM Modi expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and extended his congratulations to Wong on his new role as Prime Minister. He expressed confidence that under Wong’s leadership, Singapore would continue to thrive. Modi highlighted that Singapore’s success serves as a model for India and emphasized the importance of replicating this success through their collaborative efforts. He described the ministerial roundtable as a revolutionary mechanism fostering bilateral cooperation.
Modi emphasized that the collaboration between India and Singapore spans various sectors, including digitalization, advanced manufacturing, and cybersecurity. He noted that these areas have become central to the ministerial roundtable’s identity, further strengthening their partnership.
During his visit, PM Modi was ceremonially welcomed at Singapore’s Parliament House, where he and PM Wong shared a warm exchange. The visit included meetings with key figures, such as President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, and senior business leaders. Following these engagements, Modi is set to visit AEM Holdings Ltd’s semiconductor facility and participate in other significant events.
The visit underscores a deepening of India-Singapore relations, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to enhancing bilateral ties. Prior to arriving in Singapore, PM Modi visited Brunei, where he discussed strengthening ties with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and inaugurated a new Indian High Commission chancery.
