The upcoming Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, scheduled from September 19 to 22, is anticipated to significantly boost the presidential campaign of U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris. Ajay Bhutoria, an Indian American community leader, and a member of the DNC’s standing rules committee, emphasized the importance of this event for Harris’s campaign. He mentioned that the convention will be a defining moment, uniting Democrats from across the nation and highlighting Harris’s achievements, as well as the party’s vision for the future.
Bhutoria pointed out that Vice President Harris’s strong ties to the South Asian community will ensure a prominent presence of Indian American Democrats at the convention. He remarked that the support from the Indian American community is both impactful and meaningful, particularly because of Harris’s Indian heritage. This connection has fostered immense pride among South Asians, translating into strong financial and grassroots support for her campaign. Bhutoria also highlighted the critical role that Indian Americans are playing in supporting Harris, with many community leaders actively involved in her campaign, showcasing the collective strength and commitment of the South Asian community.
The DNC is expected to draw around 50,000 visitors, including 5,000 Democratic delegates, with speeches by Harris and her running mate, Governor Tim Walz, serving as key highlights. Bhutoria expressed the privilege of witnessing the party’s unity and enthusiasm, noting that the ‘DemPalooz’ events and sessions will offer opportunities for strategic discussions and networking among Democrats. Since Harris announced her presidential run, Bhutoria observed a surge in contributions from the Indian American community, further solidifying their support for her historic candidacy.
