Willie Brown, the 90-year-old former mayor of San Francisco, who is often credited with helping launch Kamala Harris’s political career during their brief relationship many years ago, recently responded to claims made by Donald Trump. Trump alleged that Brown had once spoken negatively about Harris to him. However, Brown firmly denied these accusations, laughing off the idea as completely baseless.
In a video addressing Trump’s statements, Brown appeared amused, dismissing the claims as utterly unbelievable. He expressed his inability to ever think poorly of Harris, whom he described as a long-time friend, an incredibly intelligent woman, and a highly successful politician. Brown emphasized his unwavering support for Harris throughout her career, stating that he had been involved in every one of her campaigns and continued to support her wholeheartedly. He eagerly anticipated the prospect of her becoming president, expressing confidence in her capabilities.
When asked who he would bet on in a debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, Brown didn’t hesitate to express his opinion. He stated that it would be unfair for Harris to debate Trump, given what he called Trump’s ineptitude and shocking lack of knowledge. Brown was so confident in Harris’s debating skills that he declared he would wager all his money on her winning the debate.
Trump, in a press conference, claimed he knew Brown well, even recounting a story where they supposedly shared a helicopter ride that ended in an emergency landing. Brown quickly refuted this, stating he had never been on a helicopter with Trump and had never done any business with him. He jokingly added that he wouldn’t want to share a helicopter with Trump due to the many people who might have an agenda against him, including those responsible for maintaining helicopters.
Although Brown acknowledged that he and Trump had once had lunch together in the 1990s when Trump was pursuing a business deal in Los Angeles, he made it clear that they had no significant interactions beyond that. They also made a brief joint appearance on an episode of the sitcom “Suddenly Susan” in 1987, but Brown downplayed any further connection between them.
