India will kick off the inaugural BIMSTEC Business Summit in New Delhi from August 6-8. Organized by the Ministry of External Affairs in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), this three-day event will be officially opened by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Keynote speeches will be delivered by Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal and other prominent leaders.
The summit will feature participation from BIMSTEC member states’ ministers in trade, commerce, industry, and energy sectors, alongside top government officials, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and industry representatives.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the summit’s goal is to enhance regional cooperation through strengthened trade and investment ties among BIMSTEC countries. With over 300 key stakeholders expected to attend, the summit will focus on advancing trade facilitation, regional connectivity, energy security, inclusive growth, and sustainable development.
The MEA emphasized India’s commitment to BIMSTEC, which connects five South Asian countries (Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka) with two Southeast Asian nations (Myanmar and Thailand). Earlier in July, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval led the Indian delegation at the 4th Annual BIMSTEC Security Chiefs Meeting in Naypyitaw, Myanmar, where discussions with key officials included meetings with Myanmar’s NSA Admiral Moe Aung and Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
