In a recent update on his Truth Social platform, former US President Donald Trump revealed that he has accepted an invitation from Fox News to debate Vice President Kamala Harris. The debate is scheduled for September 4 in Pennsylvania, though the exact venue has yet to be confirmed.
Trump also disclosed that a planned debate with President Joe Biden on ABC News has been canceled, following Biden’s suspension of his re-election campaign. The former president cited ongoing litigation with ABC and its host, George Stephanopoulos, as the reason for the cancellation, suggesting it created a conflict of interest.
The upcoming debate will be moderated by Fox News anchors Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum and will feature an audience, a change from the June 27 CNN debate format, which had no audience. Trump noted that the rules of the Fox News debate will be similar to those of the previous CNN debate, but emphasized that it will offer a live audience experience.
Initially, Fox News had proposed a debate between Trump and Harris for September 17. Last month, Harris had shown willingness to debate Trump and criticized him for backing out of a previously agreed ABC News debate scheduled for September 10. This debate comes in the wake of Harris being named the Democratic Party’s official presidential nominee following Biden’s withdrawal from the race.
Although Trump had previously stated he would not debate Harris due to her not being the official candidate, Harris has now secured the necessary delegates to officially become the party’s nominee.
