Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Indian diaspora in Moscow on Tuesday, July 9, during his two-day visit to Russia. Amid chants of ‘Modi-Modi,’ Modi emphasized the strength of India-Russia relations.
Modi remarked on the mutual trust and respect that underpin the relationship between India and Russia. He noted that every Indian views Russia as a trusted friend and commended President Vladimir Putin for his efforts to elevate India-Russia ties. Modi’s visit included a tour of Putin’s residence outside Moscow before official talks at the Kremlin.
Modi highlighted his commitment to accelerating India’s progress in his third term, vowing to work three times faster and with three times more strength. He cited India’s impressive development over the past decade, such as constructing the world’s tallest railway bridge and statue, as evidence of the country’s rapid transformation. Modi attributed this progress to the support of India’s 1.4 billion citizens and the global Indian community.
The Prime Minister also underscored the world’s changing perception of India. He stated that the 21st century is seen as India’s century, with the nation emerging as a strong pillar in a multipolar world. He promised even faster growth in the next decade, building on the achievements of the past ten years. Modi emphasized the self-confidence of contemporary India, contrasting it with the situation before 2014.
Modi expressed gratitude for the support from Indians worldwide, asserting that with their blessings, India can achieve its goals. He declared it his mission to overcome challenges and lead India to write a new chapter of global growth.
The Prime Minister outlined the government’s ambitious vision, including making India the world’s third-largest economy, constructing 30 million homes for the poor, and transforming 30 million poor women in villages into ‘lakhpati didis.’ Modi highlighted India’s achievements, such as the Chandrayaan mission and the digital transaction model, as examples of the country’s innovation and progress.
Modi announced plans to open two new consulates in Russia’s Kazan and Yekaterinburg, aiming to further ease mobility and trade between the two nations. The announcement was met with enthusiastic chants of ‘Modi, Modi’ and ‘Modi hai toh mumkin hai,’ reflecting the strong support from the Indian community in Russia.
